The unemployment level in our area increased slightly in February to 4.5 per cent.
That is up .1 percent compared to January but still below the provincial average of 5.4 per cent.
Employment in the Stratford thru the Bruce Peninsula Economic Region declined by 2,900, due to losses in full-time work (-2,500) and part-time work (-300).
The overall employment decline in Bruce, Grey, Huron and Perth counties was accompanied by a notable drop in the labour force of 27 hundred.
In the Goods-producing sector, employment fell by 2,500 in February, while it rose by 5,400 on a year-over-year basis.
Declines were spread across a number of industries, including Agriculture (-1,400), Construction (-900), and Manufacturing (-800).
On a more positive note, Grey County hosted a job fair in partnership with several community partners which saw approximately 1200 people attend and 85 employers looking to hire.
