Owen Sound police have arrested a man after a young woman was assaulted downtown.
Police say at about 2:30 Sunday morning officers patrolling in the city's downtown core responded to a disturbance in the 800 block of 2nd Avenue East.
Police say officers immediately arrived on scene to find about 15 - 20 people, many of whom they describe as being quite drunk and in a very agitated state.
They say a 22 year old man who had retreated to a nearby vehicle was identified by witnesses as the man who had allegedly assaulted a young woman on the street.
He was arrested without incident.
The young woman was found lying on the sidewalk with an injury to her face.
EMS transported her to hospital where she was treated for her injuries and later released.
Police say it appears the altercation had started at a downtown bar between the assailant and a friend of the victim.
The 22 year old Owen Sound man formerly from Alberta will appear in court in May to answer to a charge of assault causing bodily harm.
