Matt Jackson Won't Run For Council

South Bruce Peninsula | by John Divinski

South Bruce Peninsula councillor says he will pursue a Masters Degree instead.

South Bruce Peninsula councillor Matt Jackson will not be running in the upcoming municipal election in October.

Jackson stated his course of action during the regular council meeting on May 15th.

He says he will be pursuing a Masters Degree in business administration starting in January.

Jackson stated he felt going after the degree, along with working full time, he wouldn't be able to fulfill the responsibilities of an elected councillor effectively for a second term.

In prepared notes, Councillor Jackson says he's proud of the work he and most of the rest of council have done over the past four years to move the community forward.

He senses that for the first time in a long time, "As a young person living in this community.....we're moving in the right direction."

Jackson points to the development in the community that's going ahead, along with investments in critical infrastructure and it will go a long way towards keeping young people in the community.

Matt Jackson says he will not rule out a return to politics in the future.

As far as the rest of council goes, Mayor Janice Jackson has already filed nomination papers to run for mayor for a second term.

Deputy Mayor Jay Kirkland, along with councillors Paul McKenzie and Ana Vukovic have not indicated if they will try for another term.

The municipal election is October 22nd.
