Georgian Bluffs Mayor Wants to Get Down to Business

Georgian Bluffs | by Ken Hashizume

Strategic Plan and budget are Dwight Burley's top priorities; also wants Council to work together.

The new Mayor of Georgian Bluffs wants to get down to business right away.

The Township held their inaugural meeting of Council on Wednesday night.

They were one of a few remaining municipal councils in our region that had yet to be officially sworn in.

Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy and Deputy Mayor Brian O'Leary were in attendance for the inaugural.

Mayor Dwight Burley says their Strategic Plan is overdue for an update and they would like to get public input on where they want the Township to go over the next four years.

He says staff are also working on the 2019 budget and that is also something that Council needs to get going right away.

Burley says he would also like to see the entire Council work as a team in moving the Township forward.

He says they are fortunate to have many returning members of Council for this term.

One of the issues floating around the last Council term was the idea of amalgamating the Township's fire services with the City of Owen Sound's.

Burley says the two fire departments will never become one because they are two different animals.

He says it is important to share services when they can but joining departments is not the way to go.
