Georgian Bluffs Man Charged In Tay Township Boat Collision

Southern Georgian Bay OPP have charged a man who fled the scene of a minor collision.

A Georgian Bluffs man faces impaired driving charges after he allegedly drove into a moored boat in Tay Township.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP say just before 1 Sunday morning they responded to the collision in the Sturgeon River.

OPP say their investigators learned a boat with eight people aboard hit another boat that was moored at a private dock in the river, damaging it.

Police say the suspect failed to remain at the scene.

OPP tracked down the boat and after talking to the driver, also suspected him of drinking.

A 38 year old Georgian Bluffs man faces impaired driving charges.

He has a court date in Midland later September 19th.

Meanwhile, OPP are reminding boaters and drivers, an essential part of the OPP's enforcement effort is to save lives and reduce injuries on waterways and road while promoting and educating the public about safe boating practices.
