Meaford could be switching to a fee-for-service model for Fire Department services in the western part of the municipality.
Council is receiving a report this evening from staff that recommends beginning discussions with Georgian Bluffs about sole ownership of the Inter Township Fire Department being placed in the hands of Georgian Bluffs.
This possibility comes after Meaford council adopted a Master Fire Plan in February 2019 that recommends replacing or making big changes to the current service provided by the Inter Township Department.
Georgian Bluffs has also been aware of this and in early August passed a motion to begin discussions with Meaford staff about sole ownership.
Upon receiving the report this evening, council will vote and may decide to have their staff begin discussions with Georgian Bluffs.
The report, which can be read online does outline some challenges that will be encountered by making the switch.
These Challenges include governance, budgets, closest hall response and staff management.
It is noted in the report that this potential change up in ownership may actually improve fire services to the western region of the Meaford munciplity.
