General Manager Rose Austin says this Award of Excellence is a shared achievement between the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation and the municipalities of Hanover, West Grey, Brockton, Minto and the Township of Wellington North who have banded together in a very unique partnership called Saugeen Connects.
Formed in 2017, Saugeen Connects takes a collaborative approach to tackling local issues such: labour force development, entrepreneurship, youth and newcomer attraction, aging population and succession planning.
Austin says this has come in the form of many programs including: Business Succession Planning, a Student Summer Start Up grant program, labour diversification ventures to connect new immigrants with employers as well as and entrepreneurship training sessions for women in business.
Austin calls it a great honour to receive the Award of Excellence in Community Economic Development which serves as recognition for the hard work and team effort that has gone into Saugeen Connects.
Austin says Saugeen Connects is already working on some new ideas that will be unveiled as they are rolled out.
She says it is onward and upward for Saugeen Connects.
The Community Economic Development Award was presented to the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation earlier this week (September 16th) during the Community Futures Ontario Awards ceremony in London.
