Meaford Creating Patio Space Downtown For Restaurants

Meaford | by Bayshore News Staff

Municipality will erect concrete barriers and convert some parking spaces to patio space.

With restaurants now able to offer outdoor dining in Stage 2 of Ontario's re-opening plan, Meaford is taking steps to create more patio space downtown.

The municipality plans to convert a limited number of parking spaces on Sykes Street to restaurants patios between Collingwood and Nelson Streets in downtown Meaford.

Concrete barriers will be installed between the road and the patios to ensure public safety, while sidewalks will be kept clear for pedestrian traffic.

According to a release from the municipality, the barriers will remain in place until October and then be removed for the winter.

"Our restaurants have been working hard to make it through the last few months with takeout and curbside pickup." says Meaford's Manager of Strategic Initiatives Janet Sperling in a statement. "With these patios they can get back to serving tables safely as we work towards economic recovery."

Parking continues to be complimentary in Meaford's downtown core.
