If all goes according to plan, Saugeen Shores hopes to have what is called a "Wow" factor at the Port Elgin main beach this summer.
Plans are going to tender for an enhanced beach house.
Community Services director Jayne Jagelewski says hopefully by mid-July, the new facility, will highlight a future food service area, outdoor showers, family pods for changing and some new washrooms.
The plan is to have some of the family pods, heated for use all year.
In addition there will be future office space for either staff or tourism opportunities, along with much needed storage space for beach maintenance equipment.
Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau says waterfront work in 2017 at both Port Elgin and Southampton beaches will be something that hasn't happened in a generation.
$ 1.8-million has been earmarked for investment in the two beachfront areas.
It's hoped the work will also provide a more accessible beach experience for users, and a marketing factor when promoting the Port Elgin Main Beach.
