SCHOOL BUS CANCELLATIONS Bus Reports
Huron-Bruce Progressive Conservative MPP Lisa Thompson hasn't received the answer she was looking for, to her call for an inquest into the death of the fourth Aboriginal youth in six months who went missing from a group home.
The Tory critic of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation reminded the Legislature Tuesday that June 28th is the first anniversary of an inquiry into missing Indigenous young people.
She told MPPs that the inquiry in Thunder Bay issued 145 recommendations designed to prevent young people from going missing from group homes.
Thompson accuses Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Minister David Zimmer of not acting on the recommendations, and doing nothing to correct the situation.
Zimmer responded that he attended a recent meeting with Native leaders in Toronto, that came up with a number of useful ideas.
Children and Youth Services Minister Mike Coteau says his Ministry has a plan in the works, that contains what he calls "substantial changes" to the way group homes are monitored.
