Washed Out Roads in Meaford

Meaford | by Claire McCormack

Water across roads has prompted the municipality to block them off until the water recedes.

This week's fast snow melt has caused some flooding and Meaford has a few emergency road closures.

Director of Financial Services and Infrastructure Management, Darcy Chapman says water across roads has prompted the municipality to block them off until the water recedes.

The affected roads are as follows:

The 11th Line from 13 Sideroad to 10 Sideroad in St. Vincent.

The St.Vincent-Sydenham Townline from Gerald Shortt Parkway to Sideroad 3.

The 6th Concession N. from Sideroad 27 to Sideroad 24.

Sydenham Sideroad 22 from 6th Concession N. to 4th Concession N.

Chapman says in the case of Sideroad 22, reconstruction work with granular material is being done because the road was washed out.

According to Chapman, the flooding is a typical annual occurrence when the snow melts.

He says the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority has informed him the flood flows have already peaked.

He says roads will reopen when the flooding goes down, which could be as soon as later today.

Chapman notes none of the roads are high traffic routes and there are detours for all.
