A fire in Sauble Beach has claimed the life of a 17 year old girl.
South Bruce Peninsula Fire Chief Normand Beauchamp says in a statement the blaze broke out in a bunkie she was sleeping in early Saturday morning.
He says the fire was quickly extinguished and did not spread to the nearby house
Another occupant of the Bunkie was able to escape without serious injury.
Beauchamp says, “These are the tragedies our Firefighters are trained to address but no one ever wants to find themselves in this position.”
The victim’s identity was not released.
Mayor Janice Jackson says says the community’s hearts are broken. She’s asking people to install a smoke detector in their bunkies.
The fire is currently under investigation.
