Grey Bruce’s Medical Officer of Health has written an ‘Open Letter to Parents and Guardians of School-Aged Children.’
Dr Ian Arra is thanking parents for their efforts in keeping kids safe, and says he wants to support families as they consider the decision to send kids back to school on September 8th.
Arra says we have a relatively exceptional situation in Grey and Bruce with a high level of prevention and control over the outbreak.
He says this will allow the community to provide children with the safe school reopening they deserve.
Arra says he believes children need to interact with their friends, learn collectively, and return to a predictable and stable learning environment. He adds, “Returning to school is vital for their education and is indispensable for their overall well-being.”
The Province says on its website which outlines back-to-school plans, “The return to school in the fall of 2020-21 will be voluntary and based on parent choice. For parents who choose not to send their child back to school, school boards should be prepared to offer remote education. This requirement will be in place for as long as public health circumstances require adapted delivery of education.”
The Bluewater District School Board says the deadline to register your child for in-school classes is Wednesday August 19th. The board says if you keep your kids home from school you still must fill out the registration from saying so, and indicating their preference for remote learning.
