Owen Sound Police say they have no public safety concerns after identifying the suspicious male reported at Harrison Park four days ago.
City Police say they were contacted Monday by a family member of the male who had read the media release and called in to speak to an officer as they believed their adult son, who has diagnosed developmental and intellectual disabilities, matched the description.
“The identity of this male has been confirmed and it was learned that the male attended Owen Sound with his family, visiting Harrison Park for a gathering on that date,” Owen Sound Police say in a release. “The police believe this to be an isolated incident and … have no public safety concerns as a result.”
Owen Sound Police received a call about a suspicious male at Harrison Park around 3 p.m. on Aug. 21.
They say a mother supervising her three young children observed the lone male approach her four-year-old daughter and put his hands out as if he was going to pick her up.
The mother responded quickly to divert the stranger’s actions. Then the male party reportedly climbed up the ladder to one of the slides, slid down and walked away from the area.
Police say the man at no time made any comments or remarks to the mother or her young child.
