A well known member of the Owen Sound & Dundalk community has passed away.
Georgina McKelvie passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on January 2nd.
Georgina and her husband Ray have been known for their support of the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation as well as their long-time ties to the city’s OHL team.
The Owen Sound Attack franchise says in a statement, they, are, “Mourning the loss of one of the most ardent supporters of the team over its long history in Owen Sound. Georgina McKelvie, the wife of Attack Director of Business Operations, Ray McKelvie.”
In October of 2020, Georgina and Ray McKelvie donated $80,000 to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation to help ER physicians and staff maintain their emergency medicine skills.
Georgina had been a breast cancer survivor for the past 16 years and had later been diagnosed with Leukemia.
McKelvie’s obituary says she was born in Proton Township, to a large family of 12 children. She was raised in Dundalk and met her husband Ray there. They moved to Owen Sound in 1958 and were married for 62 years.
She was a member of the Grey Granite Curling Club, the Duplicate Bridge Club as well as a member of ‘The Birthday Girls.’
She was also at every home game of the Owen Sound Attack.
The Brian E. Wood Funeral Home says due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the McKelvie family is limited in the receiving of guests at the funeral home and cemetery.
A funeral will be livestreamed at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5th.
They say you can select the ‘LIVE STREAMING’ menu option at the top right corner of the funeral home website (woodfuneralhome.ca), and a recorded version will also be posted to Georgina’s memorial webpage following the service.
They say a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date when family and friends can gather safely.
Memorial donations in Georgina’s honour can be made to Central Westside United Church, Chapman House Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
