Another candidate has thrown his hat into the ring to represent the Progressive Conservative party in Simcoe-Grey.
Mathew Varsava officially announced his campaign this week.
Mathew, a husband and father to two young children, says he brings real-world experience to Queen’s Park on behalf of the residents of Simcoe-Grey.
“Simcoe Grey is host to some of the fastest-growing communities in the country. It’s no wonder why: the small-town values that we cherish, and nurture, are a fantastic fit for those looking for a mix of innovation, natural beauty, and a rugged sense of self-sufficiency,” said Mathew Varsava. “That growth has severely strained our infrastructure. We need investments in our hospitals, schools, social supports, and cellular and broadband access, to help us continue to flourish in the 21st Century economy.”
Growing up in small-town Ontario, when the time came for Melissa and Mathew to put down roots and buy their first home, they settled in Simcoe County 9 years ago.
“We wanted our kids to experience the same values growing up that we did,” shared Melissa and Mathew. “It was important to us that they grow in a community that supported each and every member.”
Part of a hockey and baseball family (Mom coaches’ hockey & ringette, Dad coaches’ baseball), Mathew offers international business experience through 15 years in the IT sector, coupled with a local grounding, and knowledge of the active workings of the provincial government. He is currently the Director of Communications for Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, Raymond Cho.
“Our riding needs a strong advocate, to deliver on the health, education, transportation and digital infrastructure our area needs. With my professional and political experience, I can deliver the advocacy we need.”
MPP Jim Wilson has held onto the Simcoe-Grey riding for the PC party for more than 30 years, but announced he wouldn’t be running in the next provincial election, which is scheduled for April 2022.
A date for the PC nomination meeting has yet to be announced.
