It appears the Kincardine Hospital is going to get the Edge Plus CT Scanner.
No minds were changed following a meeting between council and representatives of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre.
The Health Centre is planning to buy the Siemens Edge Plus model CT Scanner because it’s the latest model, released last year and comes at a cost of just over $1.6-million.
The Drive model which many Kincardine doctors and town council wants, costs more at $2.3-million but is an older model released in 2017.
Deputy Mayor Randy Roppel still is hopeful, stating the CT Scanner is not ordered yet and he’s hoping the health board changes its mind.
After the meeting, SBGHC President & CEO Mike Barrett told Bayshore Broadcasting News the order will be put in, over the next several months to dovetail with the completion of building the addition to house the scanner.
Barrett says “The board of directors has revisited the discussion, the analysis several times and has continued to come back with the original position,” to buy the Edge Plus CT Scanner.
Couple of weeks ago, council agreed to throw in $500,000 towards the purchase of their type of scanner but SBGHC is sticking to its decision.
Barrett says “The board of directors recognize that there will be people that will still not agree with the decision that’s been made….but it’s important that we move forward together to get this important service to meet the needs of the Kincardine community.”
