There was millions of dollars worth of construction value in Saugeen Shores, despite the Covid-19 challenges in 2020.
The town’s Committee of the Whole heard on Monday that in 2020, permit value was just over 84.2-million-dollars, which includes residential, commercial, institutional, agricultural and other new builds as well as renovations, additions and demolitions.
It’s a far cry from the $128-million-dollars worth of construction in 2019 but last year’s numbers were Covid-19 challenged but still allowed Mayor Luke Charbonneau to repeat his favourite saying that “Saugeen Shores continues to be the fastest growing community in the region by a significant amount and that trend will continue in 2021.”
There were 125 building permits issued last year for single family dwellings, compared to 38 in Kincardine and 16 in Owen Sound.
COVID-19 challenges in 2020 included a Provincial hold on the issuance of permits, followed by supply chain issues in the construction industry.
