Farming or agriculture in general is not getting enough recognition in Ontario’s education system.
So says Kincardine Mayor Anne Eadie attending the March 24th Politician’s Meeting put on by the Bruce and Grey Federations of Agriculture.
Many agreed, including Arran-Elderslie Mayor Steve Hammell who says they need to get to the youngsters in the elementary level with perhaps a “food week.”
Hammell says they need to emphasize and celebrate food more in the learning environment.
Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson likes the concept and promises to take the idea back to Education Minister Stephen Lecce.
In the meantime, she says fellow MPP Daryl Kramp of Hastings, Lennox and Addington riding in Eastern Ontario has presented a Private Member’s Bill calling for more ag education in schools.
