Meaford Council is looking at getting new snowplows this afternoon.
Staff will give a presentation seeking pre-approval to devote $600,000 for new tandem snow plows in the 2022 budget.
A report says the current plows are beyond their lifespan of 12 years. One has been in use for 16 years, and the other for 14 years.
Costing just under $600,000, this presentation falls within the Municipality’s policy to bring it before council if the item costs over $150,000.
The staff report says these two new snow plows would be added to the municipality’s fleet, and upon having received bids from four different suppliers, Lewis Motor Sales provided the cheapest option ($595,263) while still meeting specifications.
The other options council could consider are:
-TEAM Truck Centres, costing $602,419.20
-B & I Complete Truck Centre, costing $618,253.06
-Gerry’s Truck Centre Ltd., costing $630,509.03
Currently the 2022 capital budget is estimated to be in excess of over $4.35 million, and should council accept this recommendation and request for $600,000, it would consume 13.8 per cent of that budget.
The Lewis Motor Sales option which costs $595,263 would see the remaining $4,700 be used on locator equipment like GPS and decals.
The report will be made to council this afternoon.
