A Meaford driver has been issued summons to attend Provincial Offences Court after a trailer’s axle broke off and skid along a street.
On April 10th, around 12 p.m., Grey Bruce OPP responded to a traffic complaint about a sport utility vehicle that was pulling a utility trailer on St. Vincent Street in Meaford in which the axle had broken off the trailer and caused the wheels and axle to skid across the sidewalk, ending up in a resident’s driveway.
According to OPP, the driver attempted to continue driving the trailer without wheels or an axle until they finally stopped on the shoulder of the road.
While no injuries were sustained, a 75-year-old Meaford resident was charged with operating an unsafe vehicle and was issued a summons to attend Provincial Offences Court.
Grey Bruce OPP is reminding drivers that with nicer weather, they should conduct regular trailer maintenance, tighten all wheels and inflate tires, as well as ensure that all loads are tarped properly and that towed vehicle are safe to operate.
