Some traffic interruptions may continue in downtown Owen Sound over the next few days as the decommissioning of the 10th Street Bridge detour route continues.
Work started on April 12 to add new pavement markings, alter traffic light timing and signalization, and remove temporary signage and signage on permanent poles.
On-street parking is also being restored along 8th and 9th Streets East, 3rd Avenues East and West and 9th Street West.
City officials expect the work will wrap up sometime the week of April 26.
While this is going on, there will be a few road and lane closures as well as delays:
-9th Street from 3rd Avenue East to 3rd Avenue West
-8th Street from 3rd Avenue East to 3rd Avenue West
-3rd Avenue East from 8th Street East to 10th Street East
-2nd Avenue West from 8th Street West to 10th Street West
-3rd Avenue West from 8th Street West to 10th Street West
The City of Owen Sound also notes the two-hour on-street and five-hour municipal lot parking stay complimentary in the downtown area.
The 10th Street Bridge re-opened in December 2020, after work wrapped up on the $9.3-million replacement project. It will be dedicated in an official ceremony later this spring as Giche-name-wiikwedong Bridge, which means Great Sturgeon Bay in the Anishinaabemowin language — the name of the Owen Sound area before contact between settlers and Indigenous ancestors.
