An arson charge has been laid in relation to a house fire in Saugeen First Nation.
According to Grey Bruce OPP, on May 1st at about 5 p.m. officers responded to a house fire on Highway 21.
Members of the Saugeen First Nation Fire Department were at the scene and extinguished the blaze. OPP say the fire department notes the fully engulfed house appeared to be deliberately set on fire.
No occupants were inside the house at the time of the incident.
Following consultation from the Office of the Fire Marshall, a suspect was identified who was reportedly seen near the residence and was treated at a hospital for non-life threatening burns.
As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old local woman is facing an arson – damage to property charge as well as two counts of possession of drugs.
The accused was held for a bail hearing on May 2nd.
