Life could be at a slower pace in Sauble Beach soon.
South Bruce Peninsula council directed staff on May 4 to look into reducing the speed limit on Lakeshore Boulevard.
Mayor Janice Jackson says the request came from the Sauble Beach Chamber of Commerce, in a delegation to address the loss of prime parking spots along Lakeshore.
The Chamber had requested the speed be dropped to 40 km/h from the present 50 km/h.
Jackson says council wants to drop the limit even further — to 30 km/h.
That speed may be necessary to find a preferred parking spot.
Mayor Jackson indicates about 100 spots from the Crowd Inn in south Sauble to Kinloss Lane in the north may be unusable because of sand piles that force vehicles that are angle parked out into the thoroughfare.
Jackson says it becomes a safety issue using those spots, when families and young children dart out into the street to get into their vehicles.
She says they may be able to free up some spots around Kinloss Lane, but it becomes more difficult as you approach the business end in the south.
Staff will come back to council with a report on the speed limit at a future meeting.
