The Southampton BIA wants to complete a streetscape plan for downtown Southampton.
BIA Treasurer Bruce Martin, of Martlin’s Home Hardware, in speaking with Saugeen Shores Committee of the Whole, says Southampton’s main street has largely been unchanged for a number of years.
In a prepared report, Martin says, “The mainstreet is experiencing a renaissance with investments by the private sector to improve building facades and develop the mainstreet as a destination.”
He says they are looking for a consultant will prepare a streetscape plan that is unique to downtown Southampton, and develop the supporting design brief and implementation
details that will provide the foundation for the eventual implementation.
Martin says there will be a public meeting held to discuss the plan further on down the line.
The final recommendations will be presented to the Southampton BIA for acceptance and then be brought forward to the Town of Saugeen Shores Council for their adoption and consideration in future infrastructure investment.
The Southampton BIA has budgeted $20,000 dollars to support the development of the Southampton Streetscape Plan and Design Brief.
The actual project is scheduled to begin in early July with a completion of early September and subsequently a presentation to town council at the end of September.
