Georgian Bluffs and Meaford are are starting to get rid of noxious weeds within their municipalities this week.
According to a release, the work in Georgian Bluffs is set to start on June 1 as staff tend to any poison ivy, hogweed, wild chervil or cow parsley, and phragmites.
The township undergoes this project to reduce the infestation of noxious weeds that impact the agricultural and horticultural lands, while minimizing any health hazards to livestock and workers.
Meanwhile, Meaford has teamed up with Green Stream Lawn and Vegetation Management to stop the spread of any invasive weeds along rural roadways in the area.
A release notes, weather permitting, truvist herbicide will be applied to overgrown and weedy areas and is expected to take about two days to complete.
The herbicide is an approved tool which has shown to be effective against invasive species like wild parsnip, wild carrot and giant hogweed, without impacting any other vegetation, people or pollinators.
