The 2021-22 budget for the Bluewater District School Board has been tentatively approved by the board’s Business Committee.
The report presented June 1st indicates the budget is one of flexibility.
It’s pretty well a balanced budget focused on maximizing the health and safety of students and staff while promoting learning recovery and re-engagement to optimize student achievement.
Board Treasurer Rob Cummings says the new budget calls for an operating revenue of just over $226.7-million, which is down from the current budget of just over $229.4-million.
He says if there are any surprises in September due to Covid, they have the flexibility of using the reserve funds if necessary.
In essence Cummings says they’ve presented a conservative budget as requested by the province and he’s comfortable with it.
Next year’s budget is expected to be formally approved at the next regular meeting of the Board on June 15.
The board is mandated to have an approved and completed budget into the province by June 30.
