The South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) is in good shape heading into the new fiscal year.
The previous fiscal year for the hospital organization came to an end on March 31. SBGHC ended with a surplus of just over $1.4-million.
That’s down a bit from the previous fiscal year when a surplus of just over $1.6-million was realized.
SBGHC President and CEO Mike Barrett says it shows the Centre has been “fiscally responsible but still delivering … high quality care to all the patients we serve.”
Barrett says it wasn’t always this way, citing two years ago when their reserves took a $1.7-million hit to get rid of a deficit and end with a balanced budget.
However with the recent surpluses, the Centre’s cash position has risen to $12.4-million so there’s money for future capital projects and any unexpected operational costs.
The operation budget for this fiscal year, April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, is $50-million and the board of directors believe a balanced budget will be the result of the current fiscal year.
