Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Alex Ruff says racism and hate have no place in Canada, following the targeted killing of a Muslim family in London, Ontario Sunday that police say was hate-motivated.
A grandmother, two parents and a 15 year old daughter were killed and a nine year old boy was seriously injured after a young man in a pickup drove up onto the sidewalk and hit them with his vehicle. The 20 year old London man has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
Ruff says, “I am angered, frustrated, dismayed and disappointed with the coward who perpetrated this act of terror against the Muslim family in London, Ontario.”
Ruff agrees with opposition leader Erin O’Toole’s, statement which said all Canadians must “Stand with the Muslim community and reaffirm our commitment to build a country that is free from hatred, where Canadians of all faiths can live without fear of violence or persecution.”
A retired colonel in the Canadian Armed Forces who served as recently as 2019 in Iraq, Ruff says, “I’ll repeat what I’ve stated publicly in the past: I’ve spent my whole adult life serving and standing up for all Canadians while defending our interests both here in Canada, and around the globe. I have seen first-hand what happens in countries that use hate, race, and religion to treat others as inferior.”
“Canada and Canadians can and must do better,” says Ruff, adding, “Stop the hate. Stop the racism. Treat others like you expect to be treated yourself.”
