West Grey council has approved an alternate voting system for the 2022 municipal election during its regular council meeting.
On May 18, it was decided voting will be done through the internet or by calling in.
A release notes these methods were chosen for several reasons:
-wider accessibility
-greater flexibility for eligible voters to cast their ballots from anywhere
-weather and potential Covid impacts will not impede the voting process
-online and telephone voting in 2018 resulted in a 13.4 per cent voter turnout over the one held in 2014
-cost-effective and environmentally-friendlier option
-election results will be available moments after the polls close
West Grey Mayor Christine Robinson says, “As we learned from the 2018 election, alternate voting methods offered several benefits for West Grey electors, and resulted in an increase in voter participation.”
Residents are encouraged to visit the Municipal Election 2022 page on the West Grey website for more details, including how to check you are on the voter list.
