As the demolition of the former Smith’s Tire Service is underway in Meaford, the project is aimed to be completed no later than June 18.
The project began on June 8 and is the next step in councils initial decision to buy the 28 Nelson Street West property in 2019, and turn it into a municipal parking lot.
According to Meaford Manager, Parks & Facilities Services Rod Willis, upon completion, the area will be left as a gravel parking lot for the short term, and available for use as soon as June 19.
Willis says over the next few months the municipality will be securing a consulting firm to prepare for the new parking lot design, including surfacing, drainage, lighting, accessibility, and potential electric car charging stations.
It is expected the final design will be available for this fall and will be included in future budgets.
