Bruce Power’s supplier partners are donating $50,000 to the Saugeen Ojibway Nation’s Youth Leaders in Training Program, in recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day.
The program assists youth between the ages of 14 to 25 in developing their leadership skills, self-confidence, communication, creative planning, and conducting workshops and events.
Bruce Power’s Director of Indigenous Relations and Business Partnerships David Abbott says the positive impact the community mentors have had on the youth of Saugeen First Nation and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded Fist Nation over the past decade has been indescribable.
Chief of the Saugeen First Nation Lester Anoquot adds the leadership program has been instrumental to his community’s next generation of leaders.
“Many youth in our community have developed excellent skills through this program, which will serve them and our community well into the future,” says Chief Anoquot.
Funded through the Bruce Power Charitable Events Sponsorship Program, partners are matched with local, provincial and national non-profit organizations geared towards Indigenous youth, health and wellness organizations, Canadian veterans and local Legions, food banks, as well as hospital foundations.
Through the support of more than 30 suppliers through the program, the donation will be made to these initiatives in 2021.
