Over $2,000 has been raised for Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce through the first of three class car cruises.
On June 27, the Show ‘N Go event was held despite the significant weather which made its way through the region over the weekend.
Co-Organizer of the event Dave Middleton says while they have no control over how Crime Stoppers will spend the money raised, it will go towards what the organization needs after facing reduced funds as a result of the pandemic.
“As drivers arrived into the parking lots where we all gathered before we started the tours, the drivers simply made donations, it is a free will donation there is no charge to be part of the tour because they are going to spend money on gas, food and drinks and other things on the tour,” says Middleton. “In the Port Elgin Plex parking lot, we experienced some incredible giving, at least one of the drivers actually donated a $100 bill.”
A release notes more than 250 classic cars from as far away as Woodstock, Huntsville, Parry Sound, Oshawa, and Windsor participated in the tour, traveling around Saugeen Shores, Sauble Beach, Kincardine, Chesley, and the Point Clark Lighthouse.
Middleton says they had a variety of different cars show up for the tour including a classic corvette club.
The next cruise is scheduled for Aug. 1 and will travel around the southern part of the Bruce Peninsula. Middleton adds the last cruise is set to Sept. 26, titled the Falls Colours Cruise, which observes the fall season near Georgian Bay.
More details about the cruises will be made available on the Sunset Cruisers Facebook page.
