Close to $2 million is being allocated in transportation funding for Grey County, Owen Sound and the Township of Southgate.
Announced by Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker in a release, the funds are coming through the provincial Community Transportation Grant Program.
Made to ensure local transportation services have additional time to establish their services while they recover from the pandemic and built their services up to a sustainable level, from 2023 to 2025, Grey County is eligible to receive over $900,000, the City of Owen Sound over $670,000, and Southgate over $300,000.
“This additional funding support will help ensure people have access to transportation services that are needed in our community,” says Walker. “As we recover from Covid-19, reliable transportation services will be key for accessing life’s essentials and for supporting the local economy.”
This funding is part of the grant program providing up to $30 million over five years between 2018 and 2023 to 38 municipalities, including several who are are partnering up with or supporting indigenous communities and organizations.
“On behalf of the City of Owen Sound, I’m happy to receive this great investment from the Community Transportation Grant Program. I’m pleased the province has made this announcement well in advance. This long-rang funding commitment gives us the ability to better plan for our future needs,” says Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy.
