The Owen Sound Hospital Foundation is receiving a cheque of over $165,000 from a supporter who has been donating for 24 consecutive years.
A release notes the funds came from the Estate of Robert J. Wark, who favoured the use of new medical equipment and improvements made at the hospital.
The donation Wark gifted the hospital was designated to go towards heart care and the purchase of seven Electrocardiograph machines, which measures and keeps track on heart electrical activity.
Having passed due to a stroke in 2018, Wark updated his will to include a gift for the hospital which had been key to the medical care of his late wife, Geraldine, son John and himself.
Wark believed the care and quick response from the medical professionals and nursing staff gave him quality of life.
“I think his legacy of better heart care at the hospital suits who he was perfectly. Every patient deserves great care like Bob and his family received,” says friend and Estate Trustee Eileen Saker.
Wark lived in Owen Sound and worked his entire career on lake freighters hauling grain and iron ore. Starting in 1952, he moved up the ranks to retire as Mate in 1998 after suffering from a heart attack while sailing along Lake Huron.
