Saugeen First Nation leaders continue to try and get ahead of a Covid outbreak in the community.
In a video address on the Saugeen First Nation website on Tuesday, Band Council member and Health Committee Chair Doran Ritchie announced that a door-to-door campaign is beginning as medical officials, including nurses, physicians and paramedics will be doing mobile testing and vaccinations.
A Saugeen First Nation Elder will also accompany the teams.
A swab clinic will be held at the Fisheries building from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the mobile service running from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
This is in addition to the various clinics that are open throughout the community, servicing special needs clients and others.
Ritchie says the lastest statistics reveal that 97 positive cases have been reported, “57 are active and 40 have recovered.”
Last week, Saugeen First Nation closed all band services and businesses for at least two weeks to address the outbreak.
Meanwhile, other communities in the region are stepping up to help.
On Monday, Kincardine council approved spending up to $10,000 in gift cards for food and personal items for Saugeen First Nation residents.
Ritchie says they are still in need of volunteers to help manage the Covid fight.
