Kincardine is inviting residents to offer their comments as the Heritage Conservation District Plan enters its final stages.
The municipality explains in a statement a a Heritage Conservation District (HCD) study was started in 2019 to identify and look at heritage resources which included buildings, landscapes, and streetscapes in the Queen Street, Princes Street, Durham Market North, and Durham Market South areas in Kincardine.
At a Dec. 16, 2019 meeting, council moved into phase two of developing an HCD plan, included in the 2020 budget. The goal of it was to provide policies and guidelines to manage change by designating an area under the Ontario Heritage Act.
This would outline how altercations, additions and new construction should occur in the area.
Residents’ input on the plan has been received over the past two years, and with the plan now in its final stage, the final draft will be presented to council next week at a public meeting. Residents are welcomed to attend and offer their thoughts on it.
Council will then vote at a future meeting to adopt a by-law to designate the area under the Ontario Heritage Act, as well as adopt the HCD Plan.
Anyone who would like to attend the meeting, can do so on Sept. 13 at 5 p.m.
The final draft of the HCD plan can be viewed here, and anyone who wishes to address council on this matter are encouraged to contact Jennifer Lawrie by noon on Sept. 8, at 519-396-3468.
