The Municipality of Kincardine is planning to hold Understanding and Applying Anti-Oppression Workshops this fall.
A release notes the training provided is part of the Municipality’s goal to advance inclusion, diversity, equity, and access in both the Kincardine organization and communities.
The workshops will be led by Parul Pandya from Community Impact Consulting, and will have participants get into conversations about anti-oppression, equity, anti-racism, and inclusion, to talk about individual experiences.
Kincardine’s Manager of Strategic Initiatives Lorie Fioze says everyone has an unconscious bias and belief.
“Learning and awareness is a great first step and these workshops will certainly get the conversation started,” says Fioze.
Those participating will also be taught ways to bring about positive action in their communities.
Kincardine Mayor Gerry Glover says, “we want to, as a municipal leader, inspire a culture that recognizes the strength in and embraces diversity.”
Spaces are limited and are available to residents, municipal staff, committee members, and volunteers.
The first workshop was held last week and there are two others scheduled on Oct. 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and Nov. 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Residents can register on the Survey Monkey website.
