Kincardine District Senior School entered a hold and secure for just over an hour on Thursday afternoon due to a police investigation.
South Bruce OPP say they received information at 1:07 p.m. that threats were being made by an individual in Kincardine. As a result, Kincardine District Senior School entered into hold and secure at the request of OPP as police officers conducted a search of the area.
A post on the Kincardine District Senior School website says this measure is used in times of a potential threat in the community, but not within the school. It involves locking the external doors of the school while carrying on with all other activities within the building as normal as possible.
The hold and secure was lifted at 2:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
As a result of the police investigation, a 17-year-old Kincardine resident was taken into custody and charged with uttering threats.
OPP say this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
The school’s principal Andrew Riddick says in a social media post: “We recognize that this caused a lot of anxiety within the school and Kincardine community but we are very proud at the way our students behaved and followed the direction of staff.”
