Saugeen Shores Police say a Bruce County man is facing charges following a break and enter in Southampton.
Police say on Jan. 2 around 5:24 a.m., officers received a call of an ongoing break and enter at a residence, where the suspect forced his way into the home and demanded the vehicle keys from the lone resident.
Police say the suspect was able to flee in the stolen vehicle before officers arrived on the scene.
Later at around 6:25 a.m., police say Cancom Security saw the stolen vehicle heading south to Port Elgin, and an officer was able to find the vehicle in the 500 block of Bricker Street.
The attending officer saw the male driver and approached to make the arrest, when the suspect brandished an edged weapon.
Police say the attending officer was able to take physical control of the situation until more units arrived, where the accused was brought to the police station.
As a result, the 27-year-old has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter, possession of a dangerous weapon, dangerous operation, operation while impaired, mischief under $5,000, failing to comply with a demand, possession of firearms or ammo contrary to a prohibition order, and operation while prohibited.
The accused was remanded into custody pending a future court date.
Saugeen Shores Police did not provide the name of the accused.
