Georgian College is receiving a share of a $7.2 million provincial investment to modernize and provide a safe learning environment.
Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker announced the college is splitting the funding with Lakehead University to provide a better environment for students, faculty and staff both virtually and on campus.
This is part of a $582 million investment from the Ontario government over three years, to assist institutions modernize their classrooms by upgrading technology, carrying out critical repairs, improving their environmental sustainability and supporting virtual learning projects.
The $4 million being received by Georgian College will allow them to modernize their equipment and resources for programs including the new stand-alone Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at the Barrie and Owen Sound campuses.
It will also assist in purchasing a variety of equipment for their collaborative nursing program, including a code blue notification system, wheel chairs, students charting stations, a floor lift, and crash cart. This is in addition to providing HVAC upgrades, elevator refurbishments, and classroom improvements.
Walker says this funding support of the nursing programs will ensure students have access to modern instructional equipment to meet business and industry standards, and enhance the overall student experience.
“By investing in post-secondary infrastructure, we are not only supporting our local economy, but supporting our local students to access good education closer to home, which ultimately will result in more care to people of our community,” says Walker.
