Saugeen Shores Council is going to be hearing from residents tonight on a proposed apartment development near Nodwell Park.
Mayor Luke Charbonneau says the planning meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. will give residents the chance to voice their thoughts on the development that has spent a couple years in the works.
The proposed development seeks to build a subdivision with 12 detached dwelling lots, two apartment blocks with 150 units in four buildings, and one block for storm water management, trails and conservation purposes.
A report says the 12 proposed single detached dwelling lots will have frontage on both Market Street and Geddes Street.
“So this one has been going on for a couple of years now, there is a developer who purchased the property and is looking to develop it and has been going through various iterations of the plan for quite a while. So now we are at the point where they have a formal proposal for the property and it requires an official plan amendment and a zoning by-law amendment in order the move forward and so that is what council is considering now,” says Charbonneau.
Charbonneau says following the meeting tonight, the input from residents, the planner and the proponent will be taken, looked at and be brought back to council at a later date with a recommendation on how council should move forward with the proposal.
“We are going to hear from the public tonight, they are going to tell us all they have to say on it I’m sure, and then at some point in the future council will take into account the public input, the environmental impact study, all the work that has been done by the planners and archeological studies,” says Charbonneau.
Charbonneau says any residents who would like to voice their interest or concern regarding the development, they can write to him, the planner or the town.
“We are in the public consultation stage of this and so we want to hear from the public and I know tonight people can always write us a letter and we will put that on the public record and take their thoughts into consideration,” says Charbonneau.
The meeting can be viewed tonight on the Saugeen Shores council calendar page.
