The City of Owen Sound is accepting nominations for senior of the year, volunteer of the year and youth volunteer of the year.
The city says for over 40 years it has been recognizing volunteers from community groups and organizations who have made a significant contribution to the quality of life in the city by awarding various volunteer age groups. In 2018, the award for youth volunteer of the year was introduced for those 21-years-old and under.
The nomination period for the 2022 awards are now open until March 7, and forms can be found on the city’s website, with hard copies available at city hall.
The city’s Community Services Committee operates as the selection committee who will be evaluating applications and considering the guidelines established in the award criteria.
Such criteria includes the length and impact of service, time commitment, and must have performed such service on a wholly volunteer basis and not for pay. The full criteria break down is on the city’s website.
The winners will be presented their awards prior to a council meeting in April and June, pending gathering restrictions.
Mayor Ian Boddy says, “the community in and around Owen Sound is surrounded by generous volunteers who provide their time for the good of the community. I encourage anyone who knows a deserving volunteer to complete a nomination form and work to have their efforts acknowledged.”
