A $25,000 donation has been made to Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce on behalf of Bruce Power employees.
Bruce Power says on March 4 to mark Employee Recognition Day, the donation was made to honour the contributions of the company’s employees to their communities.
The donation is part of Bruce Power’s Community Investment Program that provides over $2 million annually to local, provincial and national non-profit organizations, events, Indigenous communities, health care initiatives, youth, military and first responders, and environmental protection.
Bruce Power President and CEO Mike Rencheck says Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce is an organization close to the heart of the company, its employees and supplier partners, and many volunteer their time on local housing projects.
“I am proud of our employees and what we’re accomplishing here at Bruce Power and where we live,” says Rencheck.
Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce Greg Fryer adds, “our board of directors and staff are extremely grateful for the support of Bruce Power and their many employees who have volunteered their time at our builds to help us provide affordable and energy-efficient homes for families in need.”
This year Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce will begin constructing seven houses in partnership with Saugeen Firs Nation on their traditional territory for member families, according to Fryer.
This follows the four homes built last year.
There is currently a plan to start a home repair service for the First Nation that will employ members of the community, providing skills training and experience for participants.
