It’s International Women’s Day (March 8).
The global day that has been recognized for over 100 years celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
It also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
Provincial political parties announced they’ll be holding a leader’s debate on Equal Pay Day, April 12th. So far the provincial NDP and Green Party leaders will take part.
The Grey Bruce Poverty task force is marking international women’s day by saying it’s advocating to the Ontario government to mandate free menstrual products at all schools and workplaces.
The Women’s Centre Grey Bruce is holding a silent virtual auction to mark the day and raise money for women and children who are fleeing abuse in the community. The goal for the auction was to raise $5,000. As of 4:30 p.m. March 8th, 2022 it has raised $7,828. The auction continues until March 10th.
The Town of the Blue Mountains is holding a women in business networking event online tonight from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. to talk about ongoing challenges and opportunities in the community.
Later this week, Bruce County is hosting keynote speaker Sarain Fox on March 10th at 6 p.m. That event is called Career Development: The Golden Thread.
