A perfect score for drinking water quality has been received by the City of Owen Sound from the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks for 2021.
The city says the Operations Committee received the annual Water System report during a meeting on March 8. At this meeting, staff announced not only did Owen Sound pass inspection from the ministry, but achieved a 100 per cent score.
The annual provincial inspection is a legislative requirement needing to be done for all municipal drinking water systems under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The act makes sure the city is meeting the ministry’s legislation, policies and guidelines.
The city water system has about 158.6 kilometres of watermains and 7,200 connections.
Mayor Ian Boddy says, “this perfect score is credited to the staff in our Water and Wastewater Divisions. These essential service providers worked hard throughout the pandemic, and have kept up the highest standards for safety and quality of the drinking water in our city.”
