Kincardine council is deferring a decision on potential enhancements to the existing off-leash dog park and consideration of an additional dog park.
During a Committee of the Whole meeting on April 4, a report was brought forward to request the Inverhuron Bike Park continue to run as a destination for active transportation.
In addition, staff would also investigate enhancements to the existing off-leash dog park, and would also consider an off-leash dog park at the Tiverton Sports Centre.
Director of Community Services Jayne Jagelewski says they found people had still been using the area.
“It is a great piece of property and one that could be actively used by not only dog walkers and cyclists, cross country skiers, snowshoers, if when promoted appropriately, could be a real destination,” says Jagelewski.
Coun. Bill Stewart says he has no issues in making a multi-use park which would welcome dog walkers. Stewart suggested getting people’s opinions in the summer when they have visitors in the area.
“Maybe in our future we need to take a look at all three of our parks, the lower park as we call it, the upper park and this bike park, and really see what the local people and surrounding area, including our friends in Tiverton would like to do. There needs to be a continuous body of work on this until we finally find the logical conclusion,” says Stewart.
Coun. Dorne Fitzsimmons proposed they have staff research a hybrid model of park and look at possible locations and costs associated to setting up a small dog park at the Inverhuron Bike Park.
Council is meeting again on April 20.
