An annual home fire safety assistance survey is coming back to Owen Sound.
The now live questionnaire about fire safety in the home from Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services, asks residents and families to ensure they have working smoke alarms on each floor of the home, as well as carbon monoxide alarms in any sleeping rooms.
The survey also reminds residents to keep their cooking areas clear of combustibles, and check everyone in the home knows of the designated meeting place outside.
If residents identify any concerns in their smoke or carbon monoxide alarms, they can contact Owen Sound Fire to assist in repairing or replacing the devices.
Fire Chief Phil Eagleson says they are excited to start this inspection program after a two-year break due to Covid.
“We encourage residents to reach out to our department if they need any help ensuring their home is fire-safe,” says Eagleson.
Fire Prevention Officer Greg Nicol adds fire safety starts in the home.
“Taking this survey is a great way to ensure your devices are working, and that everyone in your Household stays safe and knows the plan in case of an emergency,” says Nicol.
The survey can be completed by visiting the City of Owen Sound website, or by visiting the Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services Facebook or Twitter pages.
