The City of Owen Sound is planning to improve traffic signal timing on 10th Street from 4th Avenue East to 3rd Avenue West over the coming days.
The city says it is working with their traffic consultant, supplier and contractor for the project that may result in delays on 10th Street while the work is underway.
A consultant was retained by the city to study, optimize and recommend signal timing improvements to the 10th Street corridor.
The goal of the adjustment is to improve traffic flow and reduce travel time through the 10th Street cross-town corridor.
These improvements include reducing the cycle timing to 90 seconds during peak morning and midday periods, and providing a protected advanced left turn phase during midday at 2nd Avenue West, 2nd Avenue East, and 3rd Avenue East intersections.
The improvements will also implement a night period, with traffic signals remaining green unless vehicle are detected from side streets, and an eastbound only left turn phase during morning peak period at 2nd Avenue West, 2nd Avenue East and 3rd Avenue East. Eastbound and westbound left turn phases will also be maintained during the afternoon peak period at 2nd Avenue West, 2nd Avenue East and 3rd Avenue East.
The city says they anticipate the work to be completed, with implementation issues be resolved over the next several days.
