Camp Presqu’ile is reopening for local children and teenagers for the first time in two years with Covid conscious adjustments.
The camp is located north west of Owen Sound and sits on 14 acres of the Georgian Bay shoreline. It works in partnership with the Owen Sound Rotary Club, allowing the YMCA of Owen Sound to provide the overnight summer camp for youth between the ages of 6 and 16.
Camp director Megan “Scotia” Hutton says the camp includes a range of activities including ecology, drama, arts and crafts, archery, swimming, and canoeing.
Hutton confirms in returning to camp this summer, they are implementing a few changes.
“We are requiring that campers 12 and over are vaccinated and are encouraging those 11 and younger to be vaccinated and will require proof of vaccination when the 12 and over arrive at camp. There are currently no mandates around camp regulations so we will increase our cleaning and do health screening daily with campers to ensure that we are catching anything if it does slip into the community and isolating quickly and working with public health to make sure we are staying safe this summer,” says Hutton.
Hutton says they are enthusiastically planning their 2022 summer overnight camp season.
“Everyone I have ever met in Owen Sound seems to know someone or has been someone who have been to camp Presqu’ile and it is always brought them lots of great memories back when it is mentioned. So I think Presqu’ile is a real touch point for summer fun for the local community. So we hope that we can continue to keep providing that opportunity for kids for years to come,” says Hutton.
